Approval granted for next phase in delivery of FET College in Cavan

Minister for Rural and Community Development Heather Humphreys has announced that Cavan and Monaghan Education and Training Board (CMETB) has been approved to move forward with the next phase of developing a new College of the Future in Cavan.

Following a thorough evaluation, CMETB is pleased to advance to the Pre-Tender stage, which includes Project Design, Planning, and Procurement Strategy. This is a very positive and most welcome development for CMETB, its Further Education and Training (FET) Service, learners, employers and the wider community.

The proposed project will establish a new education and training facility at the Cavan Institute Cathedral Road Campus, consolidating FET services at one location in Cavan town and introducing new training programmes and specialisms, including tertiary options, and ultimately contributing to a vibrant local economy and sustainable job creation.

Minister Humphreys said: “Today represents a significant day for Cavan, Monaghan and the wider region. This key stage of delivery will mean that the show is approval has been given for a detailed project brief, a procurement strategy and tender documents to be developed. The proposal put forward by Cavan and Monaghan ETB envisages the delivery a new building to be constructed as part of the Cavan Institute campus. This new building will consolidate an array of existing FET accommodation to create a consistent learner experience across a wide range of FET and tertiary programmes.
The development will also make a significant contribution to ETB and sectoral Climate Action goals.”
